Fruit bats: what you actually want to know

I suspect that of the many thousands who have spent the past few days reading and writing about fruit bats, fairly few will know anything much about them, even now – apart from their alleged sexual habits. In fact, fruit bats – also known as ‘megabats’ or ‘flying foxes’ – may not be directly related to the ‘microbats’ more commonly found in Europe. It is believed, in fact, that they may be more closely related to primates – i.e. you and me – and that they may have similar brains.

On a different note (if you’ll pardon the pun), the ‘Fruit Bats’ are an American folk/rock band from Chicago.
