Scotland’s new cabinet: Russell remains in Education

Yesterday the re-elected and much strengthened Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, announced his new cabinet, which has increased in size from six to nine members. Not unexpectedly, Michael Russell remains Education Secretary, it being a widespread point of view that he did a very good job in the last government in that role. There will be many challenges ahead for the education sector, but the universities will want to work closely with him to ensure that higher education benefits from stability and an ability to maintain excellence and support innovation.
