Tell us a story

I am sure you already knew this, but today is World Storytelling Day. The idea originated from Sweden nearly 20 years ago, and since then has spread to a number of other countries. On this day people are expected to tell and listen to stories, and the purpose behind it all is to celebrate the concept of the story as an artistic genre. You know it’s real, because it has a Facebook page.

I have not come across any active participation in this event in Ireland, which is a shame because the Irish literary tradition has its origins in storytelling. Maybe we can join in next year; there are plenty of stories to tell right now.
